So far, Logan has thoroughly impressed fans and critics alike with this brand new take on a familiar character and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 brought back our favorite characters and made us love them more- but are there any other superhero hits waiting in the wings? This year we’re seeing more superhero sequels and solo films than we have in quite a while, but which are the most anticipated?
Another Thor movie is on the way and this one is getting fans more excited than usual. With a new director in the chair – Taika Waititi, director of Hunt for the Wilderpeople – this is the most excited people have been for a superhero sequel in some time. This latest addition to the Marvel collection is said to put a brand new spin on the hero compared to the films before and it is promised to be ‘one of the most adventurous and out there’ Marvel films yet.
Compared to the microscopic men and talking trees in the other Marvel films, we can’t imagine how much more ‘out there’ a superhero film can get and we have no idea what’s in store for us. Based on the trailer alone, everyone is looking forward to seeing the final product and can’t wait to find out what’s in store for the God of thunder. So far, what we know about the story is that Thor is stuck in tournament on a foreign planet with a crazy queen and one of the most anticipated scenes involves Thor and the Hulk – clad in Gladiatorial garb – going head to head in the arena. If you have yet to see the trailer, now is certainly the time to do it.
After some of the last few DC movies, some fans have been left a little less than impressed with the cinematic interpretations of their favorite heroes. Some critics blame the lack of continuity while others think the serious tone might have dampened some of the stories, but it looks like director Zack Snyder is taking a leaf from Marvel’s book and putting together a franchise that can actually be pieced together – that is, that is what fans are expecting after having not one, not two, not three, but four DC superheroes getting their own solo films as well as already announcing the sequel to Justice League despite the film not even being released yet.
Cyborg, Aquaman, The Flash and Wonder Woman will all be getting their own stories to fit together with the new Justice League cinematic story arc (we hope) and all of them will be coming out within the next two years, making this a very busy couple of years for DC. The date of all of these films is also a little confusing considering you might expect the solo films to come first to flesh out the characters before putting them into in a movie all together. Some DC characters have some pretty complex back stories after all and different versions have different origin stories. No one knows what’s in store for history’s most iconic superheroes, but everyone is on the edge of their seat in anticipation.
