Hellboy Reboot Back on the Screens

Theories and speculations of a new movie sequel of Hellboy keep spreading, though it will be slightly different from what we’ve seen until today.

In the movie adaptation of the comics created by Mike Mignola back in 1993, the demonic figure of Hellboy (played by Ron Perlman) was summoned by Nazi scientists. After a while, he was taken under the care of the Allies and raised by the head of the BPRD (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense) played by the actor John Hurt. Hellboy eventually becomes a member of the BPRD, helping the organization in supernatural investigations and in fighting monsters and conspiracies.

Mignola is the creator of the original superhero named Hellboy, which was a long-running series by American publisher Dark Horse Comics. It is one of the most successful franchises – together with Sin City, The Mask, Aliens vs. Predator – and made its creator very well-known in the comics world. The movies – Hellboy in 2004 and Hellboy II: The Golden Army 2008 – follow the dark fantasy superhero on his journey, both directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

This year, after a long discussion about a continuation of the movie franchise, del Toro back in February closed the doors to any sequel of the movie announcing through social media that the sequel will not happen:

Nevertheless, according to the Hollywood Reporter in May 2017, Mike Mignola announced through his personal Facebook page that there is going to be a reboot of the movie, with the title Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, which will be released during next year. The director of this new sequel will be Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) and Hellboy will be played by the star David Harbour, known as the main protagonist of the Netflix TV Series Stranger Things.

Even though no official announcement has been made on the final details of the sequel, since it is still under negotiations, the fans of the comic based movie can enjoy the storyline in a third-person perspective through video gaming. It is interesting to note that among the adaptations of Hellboy in gaming, in Hellboy: The Science of Evil released in the US in 2008 both Mike Mignola and Guillermo del Toro had participated in its creative direction.

However, the concept of the demonic superhero became the source of inspiration of many gaming companies, in order to please the fans that kept asking for more. Thus, fans can visit iGaming platforms such as Slots.io to enjoy the game in an interesting adaptation of the famous red-horned hero in slots format, which has been one of the most popular games, due to its gameplay and two bonus features.
